Hundred Acre Wood has been shortlisted for the 2023 Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award – the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland's highest accolade. It's a great honour and after receiving a commendation for House No.7, we're hoping to go one better at this year's awards on November 30th.
RIAS Award and Laurence McIntosh Interior Award /
Andrew and Murray attended the ceremony for this year’s RIAS Awards where we picked up our gong for 100 Acre Wood and the prestigious Laurence McIntosh Interior Awards for the best interior in Scotland, quite the thing.
External Exams at Greenwich University /
This year was the second year of Murray’s tenure as an external examiner at Greenwich University and it proved another good year for course. There were a couple of students that we’d be keen to work with in the future, we just need to win some more big commissions.
RA Summer Exhibition /
We’re excited to have had two pieces selected for this year’s Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy: the Cruciform Bench maquette, and a charcoal sketch plan of the House at Loch Awe.
Rebecca and Andrew had a great time at Varnishing Day, even though Rebecca dropped her favourite canape on the floor.
Thanks to Peter Barber and Emma Kitley for selecting our work. The exhibition is open until August 20th for anyone wanting to visit.
Venice 2023 /
Murray took a well-earned trip to Venice for the vernissage. It was our first year over there for the openings and it felt a good fit so we look forward to visiting again in two years and one day exhibiting some of our work.
Loughborough University Talk /
Andrew was invited to present the practice’s work to Loughborough University architecture students at their London campus in Here East. The lecture focussed on our approach to practice and how this translated into four built projects across various scales. This is the second time we have presented to Loughborough and we hope it will be one more of many
Design South East /
Murray recently gave a talk about the work of Denizen Works to Design South East following his recent move to the area. He discussed the firm's approach to design and how it could be influenced by the unique characteristics of the region. We are hoping that the talk will result in commissions in the southeast of England reflecting our presence in the area.
Greenwich Crits /
We were invited by Jonathan Walker and Vsevolod Kondratiev-Popov, design tutors leading Unit Four of University of Greenwich architecture school, as critics for the Year 3 final crits. We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the conversations and seeing great work that had strong focus on hand-made, physical models. Best of luck to all the students over the coming weeks.
AFL Champions /
Champions! Denizen Works have won the Architecture Football League. Director (of football) Andrew Ingham said: the team showed great character to finish the season with a six-game winning streak to clinch the championship on the last game of the season. We trusted in the process – which involved losing some matches (and our goalkeeper’s toenail) – and reaped the rewards.
The smelliest bibs in the league will remain unwashed whilst the winning streak continues as we defend our crown next season.
A+B Design Awards /
Good news from Scotland where we have learnt that two of our projects have been shortlisted for the Argyll and Bute Design Awards. Hundred Acre Wood and Taigh Na Traigh are both vying for the spoils in the aesthetic design category – fingers crossed!
DW x KJA /
We spent a very enjoyable evening with Jan Kattein Architects at their studio where we shared projects, wine and crisps – thank you for having us!
Get in touch if you’re keen on sharing some work, or anything else for that matter…
RIAS Awards - Shortlist /
We heard this week that we been shortlisted for an RIAS award for 100 Acre Wood. It is an incredible honour to be recognised for our hard work and dedication to excellence. We are grateful for the recognition and look forward to continuing to provide exceptional service to our clients.
Miami /
Murray had a good trip over to the United States this month with some interesting work in the offing across the pond. Looking forward to seeing how our response to the climate emerges.
