An old client emailed us this picture of their (nearly) completed refurbishment and roof extension that we gained planning consent for a few years ago. If you're on City Road have a look out for it. I think it's the only rubber and mesh extension in the neighbourhood. The mesh is mimicking the brick piers rather nicely.
House No.7, Mies and Le Corbusier /
House No. 7 has picked up another gong this week, not for the house itself but in cake form.
Tara Crooke, an architect from Aberdeen baked the cake as part of the Festival of Architecture 2016 for the Great Aberdeen Architectural Bake Off. Seeing off competition from Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, House No.7 came up trumps. This may have been the hand of the baker rather than the architecture, but I won't get to write that sentence again.
Icing must be the sincerest form of flattery.
SUSTAINABILITY AWARD /
We have just been informed that we have won an Argyll and Bute Sustainable Design Award 2015. That's right, 2015. It took the judges a little while to make the decision, but we are delighted.
VALHALLA /
We are delighted that Swain's Lane has been completed and our client's are over the moon with it. Photos to come soon, but you can read more about the project here.
GIA Annual Lecture /
Murray was delighted to give the GIA Annual Lecture in the Reid Lecture Theatre at the Glasgow School of Art last night. Nice to see some friendly faces in the audience.
New Architects 3 /
We are delighted to be included in the Architecture Foundations' new book New Architects 3 showcasing the best talent to have emerged in the UK in the past decade. You can get a copy here.
Evening Standard /
Extension One featured in the Evening Standard Homes and Property Section with our extremely happy clients telling all about the project. Somehow Phil Coffey even manages to get a mention.
HADDO YARD - WHITSTABLE /
We are in the process of developing the designs for Haddo Yard in Whitstable for a start on site in May 2016. This 1:10 Maquette is going to provide a good base for our ongoing brickwork studies.
NLA - Don't Move, Improve! 2016 /
We were a bit surprised to pick up an award last night given the strong shortlist, but delighted all the same. Had a good time with our client and saw a lot of friendly faces.
You can see all the winners here
New House /
We have started work on a new house in the South Downs National Park. Keep an eye out for further thoughts.
A Good Week /
It has been a good week for the practice.
We are very excited that House No.7 has made it onto a prestigious list of the best buildings in Scotland of the past century. You can see the full list here
On a slightly more modest scale, but just as exciting, Extension One has been shorlisted for the Don't Move, Improve! Awards 2016. You can read about our competition here
And some news slightly further afield, we have been working on designs for a teahouse in the village of Phortse in Nepal. The project is discussed here
Office Trip /
Denizen Works enjoyed a quick visit to Scotland last week to see a few of our sites north of the border. It was also an opportunity for everyone to see House No.7 in the flesh. I think they liked it.
While we were on Tiree we also had the pleasure of showing the Argyll + Bute Sustainable Design Awards 2016 judges around House No.7. We find out if we have won one in January next year.
NLA Housing Competition /
We are delighted to have our Really Free Schools concept on show at the NLA for the next few months as part of the NLA's Housing Competition. We entered 2 entries the second of which made the cut for publiishing in the accompanying book, but not the exhibition. We proposed to move St. Paul's to Primrose Hill.
